Suva explores the beauty of the world
through photography on fashion. Created in New York City by Natalya
Bagrova and Timothy Showalter, Suva's unique clothing line showcases
their collection of photographs taken while traveling throughout the
world. From a hidden tavern in Venice, to the temples of Angkor Wat
in Cambodia, to a vintage car on Route 66, Suva's vision reflects
the stories inherent in the world around us as well as a personal
vision.
Launched in August 2001 at the WWD Magic Show in Las Vegas, Suva introduced
four styles featured with fourteen carefully selected full-panel photographs,
accompanied by a journal entry about the image. By February 2002, Suva began distributing throughout the US, in addition to England,
Italy and Canada. Suva has grown from a line of contemporary t-shirts
into a wide-ranging line that includes shirts, dresses, skirts and
jackets.
Bagrova was born in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia and immigrated to US with
her family as a teenager in the 1991. Given an opportunity to live
and study in New York, Bagrova used this chance to pursue her passion
for art at Parsons School of Design, where she met Showalter. After
graduating in 2000 she worked for some of the leading design and multimedia
companies in New York. BagrovaÕs design projects included fashion promotions for world-renowned fashion designers Versace and Oscar
le la Renta. Inspired by her work, the trend-setting surroundings
of Soho and Showalter's photography, in May 2001 Bagrova created the
initial designs that became the Suva line.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Showalter graduated from the School
of Art and Design at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He worked
as a graphic designer and art director for eight years in New York
City at creative agencies in Greenwich Village and Soho. It was in
New York that he began photographing and making plans to travel and
photograph all over the world. Since then, Showalter has photographed
in over twenty countries on four continents and his images are exclusively
represented within the Suva line of products.
